关于暗房剧场
暗房剧场于2018年新建于柔佛， 位于店屋楼层顶楼（有电梯），是目前以小型私营黑箱剧场里头其中一个空间较大黑箱剧场。
剧场全长约20米，宽约10米，高3.2米，内附观众席，后台，化妆间等，也有基本剧场音响与灯光设备，目前已是一个完善的小型演出场地。
感想与笔记
参与此计划从早期会谈讨论、测量、绘图到后期一切完成，从2017年11月至今，约4个月左右的时间。这是我第一次如此完整地参与整个黑箱技术制作的计划与实施。对我而言此次合作绝对是非常好的经验，对于黑箱设置的经验不是没有，但是这次得以如此详细的地把每一个步骤剥开细嚼实践验证，实在机会难得。这还得特别感谢好友绝对的信任和包容，起剧场这件事要花的钱绝对不是小数目，但是该如何运用预算买到好器材让剧场的设备完善又user friendly是很重要的一环，每一个部门的预算都必须精打细敲才可以。
关于电
对于在商店区盖剧场这件事，肯定会有电力不足的问题发生。一般商店楼层TNB提供的电量都在100A以下，但是剧场本身除了有一堆的冷气，还有灯光器材都需要很多电量，再加上暗房另有设置一处cafe营业，因此暗房特别向TNB多申请了另外100A的电量（当然这是要付费的，不便宜）。
*TIPS:
关于商店经营剧场音响设备容易有buzzing的问题，后来在询问过程里发现，其实只要在还未动工之前，找电工拿仪器来检查，确定埋在该店地底下的Earth针埋得够深，有把多余的电都送走问题就解决了。如果电工检查到那支针不够深，那恐怕就要开洞重新再埋针，是个大工程。
关于工作坊
此次对于暗房团队觉得钦佩的事情是，他们团队重视学习，我们都知道在马来西亚懂得剧场经营或技术设置的人不多，绝大部分都是靠着乱闯乱撞得来的经验。但是他们在一开始准备盖黑箱时，已经有一笔准备让团队上工作坊的预算，秉持着“我们不懂但我们准备学习”的理念，这点让我甚感安慰。
剧场初建，所有关于安全和如何维持与经营的知识分享是很重要的，因为拥有对的常识得以带你走少很多冤枉路也比较省钱。举个例子，如果团队买了很好的灯光控制台却只会开灯关灯不懂得做效果的话，浪费资源不说，如果在使用过程因为不熟悉运作而弄坏器材的话就更是悲剧了。
剧场安全意识很重要
“Don’t be sorry, Be safe”
此次给团队开工作坊，我特别注明上其他工作坊之前，务必先来一堂“剧场安全意识工作坊”。暗房剧场在3楼，如果剧场主人自己都不懂得规划逃生路线，不熟悉灭火器怎么运作，不懂得每个月按例检查设备的话，那是一件绝对危险的事情。在业界工作的这几年一直发现身边的朋友们对于安全意识的警觉性少之又少，每当看到有人爬在高空手上拿着一堆工具，英架底下还有人坐在地上慢条斯理地折布发梦我心里就翻了无数个白眼。其实安全谁不懂，但在剧场工作或长期活动的表演者或工作人员，有没有懂得保护自己的安全意识就另当别论了。
对于团队
与暗房团队的合作可谓是让我挣了大眼，不合作都不知道暗房团队的强大。暗房团队本身绝大部分团员并不是全职剧场工作者，他们有些是插画家、手作师傅、教师等，因此暗房的运作一向不止涉及剧场，还是个多领域涉足的艺术活动与教育活跃团队。与他们合作除了感受到满满地正能量以外，也让人钦佩的是，靠着中学时期对于艺术与戏剧的喜爱，他们坚持至今的精神。个人觉得在一个大团队里，领导人得懂得如何把对的人放在对的位置，”一群人永远比一个人的力量强大“， 只要把对的人放在对的位置，运作就能发挥得淋漓尽致。这个团队的领导人不喜欢别人mention她是leader, 哈哈哈，但是我还是得在这里给她一鞠躬，你有着很强大的能量，感谢你把自己的能量散发出来带领整个团队。未来继续一起加油。

About BlackRoom Theatre
BlackRoom Theatre was recently a new builded theatre in JB, it’s at the top floor of the shop lot building (with lift). As a small scale theatre which own privately, BlackRoom Theatre has a big space with an average of 20m length, 10m width and 3.2m height. It contains well ready audience seats, back stage, dressing room etc, and also with basic lighting bars, sound & light equipments as it’s now a well ready blackbox for performances.
Thought and Notes
The works in this project from early discussion, measurement, plan drawing until the end, from November 2017, it takes about 4 months. It’s my very first time to manage a whole process of technical work planning and operating in such a complete and details way. It’s a fantastic experience for me. Thanks to my friend who all the way giving trust and understanding. It spend a lots of fund to build a blackbox theatre, and it’s very important on how you budget it in good equipments to make a theatre being user friendly.
About Electricity
It’s always happen that the power are usually not enough when you build a theatre in a shop lot area. A normal current that the shop lot usually have are 100A and below. But theatre require a lot of air conds and the lighting equipment require even more power consumption. Besides, BlackRoom theatre is running a cafe business right beside the theatre, therefore we applied another extra 100A current (Of course it cost much).
*TIPS:
Tips for the buzzing problem that we usually found when running a show at a shop lot. Was found out it’s actually cause by the earth point down from ground of the shop. You can always get an electric technician to do a test before renovation started. You need to make sure the earth point is deep enough for the exceeded power to flow off or else you will need to “replant” the point deeper.
About Workshop
As we know in Malaysia we are lack of knowledge in running a theatre business or either technical setup. You can hardly get someone who is well professional and knowledgeable in it but most of the time we only gain experience by a load of faulty or uncertain experience. But the team of BlackRoom is different, and this is what I felt respect to them. With a mind set of “We know nothing but we are willing to learn”, they kept a budget for workshop and learning before they start to run the theatre business. This make me feel impressive.
For me, knowledge in safety and how you maintain and run a theatre are very important especially at the beginning point. With well knowledge it definitely spend less. For example, if you’ve bought a great lighting console but you don’t know how to create an effect beside just playing with faders that are well set by others, let’s not say about wasting money, it’s definitely a catastrophe if it’s broken because of the wrong way it being used.
Theatre Safety is Very IMPORTANT

I especially mentioned that we need to have a Theatre safety workshop first before all the other workshops happened. BlackRoom Theatre is at 3rd floor, it will be a tragedy if the owner doesn’t realised about the safety exit plan, doesn’t do a monthly safety equipment check or don’t even know how to use a fire extinguisher. As these years that I worked in theatre, people around seems seriously lack of awareness about safety issues. Whenever i saw someone was holding tools from height but there are still some others standing or sitting day dreaming right beside of the scaffolding, it’s really piss me off. To be honest, who doesn’t know about safety? But it’s the awareness, as a person who always work inside theatre, you should at least have the awareness to protect youself and those beside you.
About the team
The corporation with the team are amazing, you wouldn’t know how strong they are! Basically most of the team members are not a full time theatre worker, some of them are illustrators, handmade artist, teacher etc. Therefore what BlackRoom Theatre organised not only theatre program but also actively in some other arts activity such as gallery, festival, education etc. Their persistence in arts are so respectful and full of positive energy during the moment you work with them. I think it’s very important for the leader to know how to put someone in the right position, and this is what i felt their team is strong about. “A team is always more powerful than alone” i think they are all agree with this and they really did it well. The leader in the team doesn’t like us to name her as “The Leader”, hahaha, but I would like to give her a bow. She didn’t know that she’s having such a powerful energy to lead the whole team. I’m sure the team will get stronger in the future!
